Important Facts to Know If Your Child Will Not Focus

Children and particularly boys have a tendency to be over active in elementary school. Remember the saying "boys will be boys?" If the theme of your conversations is, my son can't focus, read on. In today's society it seems that we are all suppose to fit in a mold of some sort, get the same grades, color within the lines so to speak. Of course there is always a possibility that a child could have ADHD but do not assume they have it just because the child will not focus or pay attention.
There are plenty of other reasons or conditions that are very similar to the symptoms of ADHD and to find out the root cause of any condition, especially ADHD, you must have a thorough examination done. Even then, you may not have to put your child on prescription medications. One reason a child will not focus is boredom, especially in school. Maybe it's only one subject they don't particularly like, or they don't understand it or perhaps their thinking is beyond the subject matter. They could even be dyslexic making it very difficult for them to concentrate in school. An open dialog with the teacher can sometimes pinpoint the problem.
Some children just have an abundance of energy and need to work it off with outdoor play. If they are inside playing video games most of their spare time and not getting enough sunshine and fresh air along with exercise this can create overstimulation in a classroom setting. My son can't focus enough to go to sleep after sitting and playing video games for too long. After I make him get off he is a bundle of nerves and must work it off with physical activity. When I was a kid we played outside until we dropped, but that is not the case today.
Diet could cause a problem if the child will not focus as a result of sensitivity to the common foods such as dairy, wheat, gluten or dyes in the food. Of course sugar is a stimulant creating more energy, and if it is a major part of each and every meal throughout the day, this could be something to look at reducing. The body needs nutrition to function correctly and sugar has no nutritional value.
Let's face it, with classes over sized teachers are not to blame. They need to have control in the class in order to teach. If one or two children are disruptive it can cause the others to lose out on learning. But, it's a sad state when we are not looking into other solutions, instead we classifying the lack of focus as ADHD.
Before you make any decisions check out the other options available if a child will not focus such as homeopathic formulas which are designed to sustain concentration, memory, and help the brain process information and stay on task. Compared to prescription drugs these natural formulas do not have harmful side effects and have proved very successful in many cases.
